B. Gibson on Friday evening with the President Mrs. C. V. Evitt in the chair, plans for the fall activities were discussed. In view of the increase in population it is hoped to organize three Guide companies as well as a Brownie Pack. Because of the urgent need of experienced leaders, the assist ance of any former Guiders or Lieutenants who would like to help with these companies would be welcomed. Owing to present conditions it was decided to hold Girl Guide meetings on Saturday, afternoon instead of Monday evenings as before. All girls of twelve years and over may join the Guides. Only a very limited number can be accommodated at present. Girls under 12 may join the Brownies. WATER HERE QUITE PURE The quality of Prince Rupert's water supply was beyond reproach, C. "R. Stonehouse, sanitary inspector, told the Inaugural meeting last night of the Prince Rupert and District Union Board of Health. The watershed was well protected from contamination but Mr. Stonehouse mentioned in this connection that the military authorities, which had been the most concerned" about the quality of the water supply, had been issuing permits to their personnel to fish in the watershed. Samples of the local water had been taken regularly, Mr. Stonehouse said, and there had been little evidence of contamination. The local reservoir had, been chlorinated, Mr. Stonehouse revealed, after workmen had been making repairs to it. Mr. Stonehouse told how local industrial plants had been pumping sea water to augment the fresh water supply. In this connection there had been rectification of conditions which might have led to contamination of the main water system. The sanitary Inspector also referred to the Terrace water supply in which there had been presence of "wrigglers" and above the watershed of which army camps had been installed.
