March 4 The Pacific Coast Militia Rangers of the Naas River (No. 130 Coy.) received a visit last week from Capt. Ken-nelly, officer in charge of training of all Pacific Coast Militia Ranger units. On his arrival in the Indian Department boat, Naskeena, the Rangers and officers paraded to the wharf, accompanied by the Kincolith Concert Band and the local Red Cross group. Capt. Ken-nelly was Introduced by James Gillett, Indian Agent, and an address of welcome was made by A. L. Nelson, intelligence officer. The captain expressed his surprise and gratification to find that the local unit had progressed so far since Its organization last fall. The whole company then marched through the village. In the evening a meeting was held in the Recreational Hall. Practically all Rangers belonging to the Kincolith detachment were present, many having travelled a considerable distance from the localities in which they were working. A number of officers from the upriver detachments, Alyansh, Greenville and Canyon City arrived Just in time for the meeting, having travelled on foot over the river Ice to tidewater, 52 miles from Alyansh, and the remainder of the distance (8 miles) by At the meeting many questions were threshed out and a demonstration of thi use of the sten gun (a guerilla weapon) was given by Capt. Kennelly. In reference to the type of fighting which Ranger units would be expected to do he stated that he had travelled through the province explaining to all units that they must learn to fight not like soldiers but Indian style. Now that he was confronted for the first time, a wholly Indian Ranger unit, he would not reverse the advice but would emphasize that they fight like Indians not like soldiers. The next day a very eager crowd of Rangers was shown how to use and fire the sten gun. Various manoeuvres included its use and also with rifles were demonstrated. The instructor was impressed with the capaballties of the !o:al Rangers and promised that they would soon receive service rlf.es, sten guns and ammunition, as well as Ranger uniforms. Also he stated that an instructor would be sent immediately who would be able to spend a few days in each As a result of the captain's visit Ranger enthusiasm Is greater than ever on the Naas River. -TV tmMMMkm. mtrn' tPJKkW A MUSICAL FOR EVERY ML mm uAnLftNU BTy SA GEORGE MURPHY SSM (l Hi GENE KELLY W WSfrnXm.
