TUESDAY, JANUARY 28, t Burns Banquet Great Success One Hundred and Seventy Persons In Attendance Last Night With an attendance of some 17C persons present, the annual Burns' Banquet last night of the Ladies' Aid of First Presbyterian Church was a complete success, highly pleasing to all present. Rev, A. F. MacSween, pastor was chairman and toastmaster. The toast of the evening "To the Immortal Memory" was ably spoken to by D. C. Stuart. Mrs. J. A. Teng was convener. Aid. Robert McKay suggested at last night's meeting of the city council that the mayor and city clerk be empowered to execute agreements for the sale of tax sale property at no less than the assess ed valuation without referring each deal to the council. The mayor, himself, was not receptive to the idea as he felt that the council should finally pass on such deals. Therefore, the proposal was not accepted. Whifflets From The Waterfront A.. M. Borland, for the past three years Identified with the ser vice of the Union Steamship Co. and the Frank Waterhouse Line in Prince Rupert, is, being transferred to head office in Vancouver and will be leaving for the south this Friday night. His successor here Is Neal McElroy who arrived In the city from Vancouver at the end of last week. Speaking this morning, Mr. Borland mentioned how he had enjoyed his stay In Prince Rupert. He also voiced appreciation of many courtesies and kindnesses he had been accorded. Last year it was reported that Johnny Moser, after an experience at Big Bay, had had his fill of hunting -was, disposing of his gun and retiring from that strenuous line of outdoor sport. However, it is now reported that Johnny has been at it again. Bright and early last Thursday morning he and others left for Big Bay.
