Pyrolu-site lis black and unusually soft enough to soil the fingers. Psllomelane is brownish black, harder than pyroluslte and has a brownish streak. It should be noted that large rock areas may be stained black by minute quantities of manganese oxide. This minera.1 is manganese carbonate.
