The July 1 issue of Maclean's Magazine, a large part of which is given to exploring -the extent of Canada's future as the crossroads of air trainsport in the northern hemisphere after the war, predicts a larg future for such strategically located places as Winnipeg, Whitehorse, Port Churchill and Prince TJvmorr Th article maintains that in the past the world has been Mercator-minded, that people have thought nf the Plobe in terms of the flat expression as shown by old style maps which followed the original concept 6f the cartographer Mercator in the 16th century. On those mans distances in the northern part of the p-lolw were sreatlv exaggerated because they did not indicate the convergence of meridian lines and, as a f-nnsonnuncp thp nnvHi was shunned as a region of ward because her rail lines ran in that direction. And cities , THE AHTISEPTIC LiHlMEkT which lie on the road to it are marked to become increasingly important just as the north itself is to grow in importance as travel across if develops. The wealth of oil and minerals that have been locked away from the world for lack cf access to them will be opened and new settlements will spring up. Other resources, such as soil fertility and timber will be discovered and the north will become a land to be lived in, and not a background for romantic adventure novels.
