One Incident was the call of a canvasser at a rather humble dwelling where a mother and a number of young children were. found. It was quite evident that their circumstances were none too good. The mother hesitated about giv ing when a girl, possibly about ten years old, pleaded with her, telling of the work she had been told the Red Cross was doing and saying: "Mother, can't you find just 50c?" z The fifty cents was found and then a little boy located 10c. These gifts were humble but they probably represented a greater sacrifice than might have been in volved for many ambitious donors Our men in the fighting forces take on a stern responsibility when they take up arms and for the time being, leave behind them country and kin. They do so eagerly . cheerfully . . . and they have every right to expect us to back them up 100 percent, Dack the Red Cross. The Red Cross campaign is going on satisfactorily in Prince Rupert and is now well along towards the halfway mark of the $12,000 objective. We are sure that there are few people in the city who do not realize the importance of the Red Cross work and are anxious to give to the utmost of their ability. It should not be necessary to elaborate further upon the need. Canvassers are endeavouring to reach every person in the city. There are, of course, some people who will not be reached by the canvassers. Such people who have not been actually canvassed and wish to give should find it easy to see that their gifts get to the Red Cross organization. The. Daily News reiterates its hearty endorsation of the'Red Cross cause and if its facilities can be of service in assisting to actually bring in contributions they are gladly offered. .
