"Now, feeling that the period of usefulness of the Welcome Hut is over, practically all local service personnel having returned home, Mrs. Wllilam Rothwell and Mrs. W. F. Robertson, who have taken a leading part in the work, will recommend to the W. A. that the centre be closed. "It has been difficult work at timet sad it has not always been convenient to meet Incoming boats and trains, but there has been a great deal of satisfaction In it," Mrs. Rothwell said this morning. She had teen in attendance at the hut more than a hundred times In the last 12 months. Ritual at the Welcome Hut prior to the arrival or a boat or train was for two or three of the ladies to open the hut, make coffee, with cookies, buns or some other delicacy, make sure several packages of cigarettes were at hand, then go out on th? v -"-f and invite newly arrived veterans to enjoy their hospitality and t rlfn his or her name lr the register. Harry Sanders of USJS. Tiicson, and other 'military and naval notables from other places. I Also there are the names of several Prince Rupert men deco- rated for their war service' Lieut. Commander Orme Stuart, D.S.C.; FlLt. Pat Deane, D.F.C.; , Sgt. Darrow Gomez, D.C.M.; Hon, Major R. C. Durnford, D.S.O., and FO J. Victor Bouzak, D.F.C., and many others.
