Stuart Tells of Drive to Be Inaugurated in Trince Rupert Next Week Imperial Order, Daughters of the Empire, in Prince Rupert will participate actively In the national Second War Memorial Fund which is about to be launched throughout Canada. The national objective is $500.-000,000 of which It is estimated, Prince Rupert will be expected to raise about $2500. Mrs. D. C. Stuart has been appointed chairman for the drive in Prince Rupert and she is already getting her organization under way. Inaugural event will be a Founders' Day tea on Wednesday of next week in I.O.D.E. Hall. The Second War Memorial Fund, Mrs. Stuart, explained to the Dally News yesterday afternoon, will have as its practical purpose the assistance of sons and daughters of men who fought In the Second World War and were either killed or inca pacitated. Bursaries and scholarships will be provided from the fund for deserving students. Mrs. Stuart referred to the magnificent work the I.OJ3.E. had done In the war for the forces both overseas and at home, for the bombed out people in Britain and for the Polish people. The people of Prince Rupert, she said, had al ways generously supported the projects of the I.O.D.E. which was now hoping for a similar measure of support In what was considered a highly worthy and appropriate work In postwar remembrance. Box 1294 SONJA LADIES' ANNIVERSARY Celebrating the fifteenth anniversary of the founding of Son-Ja Chapter- the women's branch of the Sons of Norway Lodge a program and banquet was held In Valhalla Hall Saturday night at which the officers of the Son3 of Norway were guests. The hall was decorated- with daffodils and yellow tapers for the occasion. A summary of the work done by the organization was given by the president, Mrs. John Stor- seth, who said that during the war the group had donated $200 to the Norway relief fund and, in addition, the ladies are maintaining a growing building fund which now stands at $1,200. Mrs. Gunnar Selvlg spoke on the value of unity and, using the valiant Norwegian home front effort during the war as an example, said that only co-operation could make for success. Charter members of Sonja who were present at the. celebration were Mrs. John Storseth, Mrs, Barney Roald, Mrs. Knut Slatta, Mrs. Erling Wick, Mrs. Jack Strand, and Mrs. T. Eidsvick. , During the banquet, Mrs. Jack Strand cut the birthday cake which was served to those- present. The musical part of the program consisted of violin solos bj W. Simondsen and S. Torkelsor. Master of ceremonies was Barney R'oald. Following the banquet, a dance was held.
