The Moscow Talks ... The text of the series of agreements reached at the Moscow Conference lias now been published. There are no secret agreements and the results of the Conference are there in black and white for the world to judge. The United Kingdom press of all shades of opinion has unanimously passed judgment that the Conference may be reckoned as a successful diplomatic enterprise. London commentators observe that the three Foreign Secretaries set out primarily to attain two aims, one psychological, the other practical and specific. The first aim was to recreate the atmosphere of mutual confidence which had faded since last September. The second aim was to reach agreement on the control of atomic energy. As regards the first aim, this could only be attained by the three parties HAPPY EVENING JOB'S DAUGHTERS Initiation of two new candidates and piano entertainment by J. Saturday Sermon WHAT IS THE GOSPEL? "For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ for It is the power of God unto Salvation unto everyone that believeth." St. Paul's Letter to the Romans 1:10. (By REV- G. S. SMITH, St. Peter's, Seal Cove) St. Paul at the time of writing this letter to the Christians in Rome, had not visited them and he states that he desired to do so so that he and they might he encouraged by their mutual faith and also that he might tell them personally of his experience with the gospel. What Is this Gospel or Glad News that Paul was not ashamed of? What Is this Gospel which we as Christians are asked to preach to all nations? These are very simple questions and are easy to answer. The Gospel story concerns a personality whom we know as Jesus whose birthday we have Just celebrated during the Christmas season Jesus who lived a life of complete self sacrifice for the sins of the world and who died to save men from their sins. Such Is the essence of the story of Christ but is this all that we have to proclaim to the world? The good news which Jesus brought to the world has been lost and contorted In the minds of many people who are living In a fast-changing world. The story of Christ which can work such wonders for us amid the hurry and bustle of this life has very little meaning. Some people's idea is that Christ was merely a good man, a social reformer who was killed because he dared to help the oppressed, Other people consider him as a wonder worker who controlled the elements and cured people of diseases. What place has this Gospel story In our lives during this very critical period of reconstruction; when we all are hoping that a solution may be found for such problems as insecurity and suffering caused by the greed of mankind. Some people feel that a system will be evolved where by Utopia will be placed in their lap. All these changes In 'the mind of many will take place outside of man's spiritual life. Jesus tells us that it IS not the evil which comes from the outside which will destroy the man but that which comes from the heart. In the same way It will not be the outward changes which will better the world, but the inward thought, motives and actions which will give US the solution to our problems. In order that the Gospel might become real we need the pry of YJU.C.A. BUILDING Editor, Dally News, I would appreciate any space you would be able to give me In your paper to set right a persistent rumor concerning the Y.M.OA. War-Services Building. In recent weeks discussions and plans have been under way to expedite the turning over of the War Services Building on Its closing to the Prince Rupert Civic Centre Association, Unfortunately, .a misunderstanding has arisen In many people's minds and we have received repeated 'phone calls and personal contacts asking If the building was closed as a War Services centre. As yet, we have no definite Intimation as to when our building will cease to operate Its normal program and services. Until such time as we are not! Tied by our headquarters In Vancouver of an official closing date, we will continue to render a maximum service to all military and ex-service personnel In the Prince Rupert Area. We can still utilize the assistance of volunteer workers and hostesses in the various activities and are deeply grateful for the work that they have performed for us in the past. When a closing dale for the Y.M.C.A. War Services Building Is given, we will, not hesitate to let this information become known to all. Thanking you for your courtesy, HARVARD P. This repentence came as a surprise to the leader in the days of Christ. They expected God to come and deliver the nation of Israel and establish them as the chosen people. Others were closer to the truth when they conceived of an earthly reign of right. Others expected the Kingdom of God to come only after death. But this, glad news which Jesus brought, which Paul preached all over the Roman world in our- terms a life lived with the full acceptance of the sovereignty of God a life lived by the inspiration and guidance as only Ood can Inspire and guide. Jesus lived this type of life. At all time he was under the discipline of God. At all times he measured His life, guided His life; not by His own will, but by the will of His father in heaven. Jesus preached that we must allow God to rule our hearts and actions. He rejected many of the con ventional ideas of His day and insisted that the Kingdom of God could come only in the hearts pf men and women. Today this Is still glad news when we realize that all people have a place and purpose to fulfil In the eyes of God. We are to repent, change our lives, get n tune with the universe. Our life will be one of construction FIGHTING UNEMPLOYMENT Editor, Dally News, I feel sure the organization I represent, composed in the main of persons already unemployed and some actually destitute, will welcome the announcement by the executive of the Prince Rupert Labor Council pressing for joint action by their council with the Trades and Labor Council to do something about the situation In which many of us find ourselves. While I do not reel the Job of organizing unemployed and fighting against lay-offs Is the sole responsibility of any single group, there Is no doubt but that the trade union movement has a prime responsibility In this field as Is shown by the fact that Vancouver unions haVe been on the job for many months. The Idea or Joint action by all unions Is particularly to be welcomed and I am sure will be approved by our organization at its meeting on Sunday when I shall propose that we officially welcome this proposal. One of the first things we are trying to Impress on our members Is to stay In their unions and support all efforts of the unions to deal with this question. Fighting against lay-offs is not a monopoly of any particular party or affiliation. It Is a job 011 'Which we must all Join hands. Meanwhile iny group will continue to fight on the Issues It Is already taking up, such as reduction of Staff House and Wartime Housing rents for Jald- St. Peter's Anglican Church Seal Cove Rev. G!. Jesus, because of his obedience to God, accepted the price which the world demands of those who would follow the way of life as God would have us nve it. We as Christians must always look at our lives and ask ourselves if we have been worthy of such a price? The Gospel which Paul was not ashamed of, the Gospel which has been plowed Into the very pages of history is that Christ, through men who were willing to change their hearts, redirected their lives, thoughts, motives and actions would establish God in their hearts and In the hearts of all men.
