This decision resulted from a meet ing of the Civic Centre executive last night. Recently city council offered tn use its purchase priority for the gymnasium providing tha Civic Centre would supply mc $5,000 which War Assets is asking for the building. The figure was set by War Assets after the corporation had turned down a $3,500 offer by the city. In agreeing to put up th3 money, however, the Civic Centre executive included the reservation that it would not like to be responsible for the operation of the building in addition tn its nresent resDOiisibillty for the downtown Civic Centre buildine. What arrangements can be made in regard iff operating the American gym have not been clarified but the executive felt that these probably could be cleared up after the building is taken over. A powerful argument in favor of purchasing the gym Is the fact that its Initial cost of $5,000 is no greater than the estimated cost of altering the Civic Cen-re building gym to provide adequate spectator space. The American gym can seat almost 1,000. Preliminary plans for re-or- ganizlng the Civic Centre Asso ciation constitution to provide broader representation from local organizations were also Present at the meeting were Dr. R. O. Large. Alderman T. N. Youngs, D. C. Stevenson, W. F. Stone, Art Murray, Alderman C. O. Ham and Don- Forward. Through the efforts of a newspaper in one metropolitan centre a ripe watermelon was obtained in mid-winter to treat a child suffering from nephritis.
