Gurney, who lobbed 'in 32 of the visitors' 43 points. In a manner reminiscent of Jack Lindsay in one of his "hot" moments, Gurney made every move count toward a score. His virtuosity accounted for 16 of his team's 32 points at half time but, even at that early date, failed to match the more widely distributed accuracy of Macey's who had tallied up 27 points by the half-time whistle. Joe Haugan led the Macey's scoring with 14 points, followed by Maurice Teng with 10. R. McNeil scored 9 points for. Port Edward. 91 Wins Again In the Senior "A" game, 99 Taxi p.rrlved at half time lead- n.g Savoys 17 14, and Savoys managed to narrow the margin during the second lialfy a single point. Lindsay carried the individual honors for the taxi- men with 12 points while Ted Arney ran up an equal number for Savoys. The girls' game vas distinguished by Rainbirds' successful effort to overcome Peoples Store's initial lead thus saving themselves from their second defeat of the season at the hands of the working girls. Half time score was 12-11 in favor of Peoples Store. Hard-working Carol Grey tal-l.'ed 12 points for People's Store while Budinlch ana Thain led the scoring for Rainbirds with 11 and 10 points respectively. Grotto obviously had the ad vantage throughout their Junior League encounter with Legion. Scoring was well distrib-. tited, none of the players run ning up any spectacular totals. The equal-pay-for -equal-work school has its enemies in those who say the average man has to maintain not only himself but a wife and family while many working women have not the same responsibility. The T.U.C., however, carried unanimously a resolution declaring dissatisfaction with "discriminatory practices pursued by employers of labor against their female staffs." As a major employer of le- male labor, the government hopes its answer to the demand for equal pay for men and wo- men doing similar work will be made easier by the report of a royal commission on the question which has been sitting at length but is expected to-report shortly. The commission was established by the Churchill coalition government as a result, of the defeat by one vote on an education bill amendment dealing with equal pay for women v teachers, i. Mrs. Thelma Cazlet-Kerr, then a Conservative back-bencher, was responsible for this defeat. Later she became under-secre-tary for education but lost her seat at the 1945 general election. The commission was asked to advise the government on the social and industrial implications of equal pay and what would be involved if it were adopted as a matter of national policy. The commission Is not required to say whether it believes equel pay is desirable.
