VISIT WITH SEA CADETS An Interesting and Worthwhile Evening By JAY ESS V Outside it was chilly with a tight sleet falling but inside J ere warnith and action. "In-s:de" was the Naval Drill Hall. And it was the regular training night for the Captain Cook corps pr the'Jloyal Canadian Sea Cadets. - t First J. noticed a squad, not fn uniform. These were the Vtender" squad, In sea cadet language; to those not familiar v lth-the language of the corps they would be recruits. I had seen them a few weeks ago but Row they were marching along In good style, swinging their Wa NefiFSr, INFANTS' KIMONAS and BOOTIES Kef. $2.10 arms smartly, heads up, and showing signs of soon qualifying fcr their uniforms. Then there were two squads doing rifle exercises. It made me think of the days when I first tried to handle a rifle. Rifles are heavy and the movements not very simple hut here again the lads were handling the rifle with a fair degree of ability, and movements were beginning to be done as "one man." To the side were the signallers. This calls for specialists and the lads were doing their work expertly. The Morse signalling was being sent at a good rate and being read accurately. These lads are really good. Sometimes Inside and sometimes outside, where there were no restrictions, the buglers were practising their calls. With a set of new bugles the cadets were sounding the calls and practls- lace's Sale Of Girl' 1.50 We serve you nothin? but the best Special Red Brand Beef, Choicest fresh Vegetables and Fruits Complete line of Groceries OUR DELICATESSEN DEPARTMENT OPEN DURING REGULAR STORE HOURS Choicest Cooked Meats, Meat Pies, Roast Chickens, Fish and Chips daily. First, the group has to find ways to raise money on its own since the national treasury no longer is open to it Secondly, the Nationalists are rib? hiding the fact that they are worried about chances of winning China's first general election since" the Ki-.-slintang took over. There are even rumors that the party may .split. ing the marches, marches that give the corps that zip' that makes them march so smartly. And here and there busy on some activities could be seen the Wrennettes, some looking very smart in their uniforms, and evidently determined that they would be the equal in smartness of the male members of the unit. Prince Rupert has always been a fishing town and still will be nothing else but that unless those who have trades other than fishing do something abou: it. For instance, there are plenty of carpenters out of work. At the same time we have been getting every stick of furniture from outside. Now there are so many available places to work in, why, don't we get together and start a furniture factory? Then we are short of dairies here and have to get some of our milk from other places. That might be something for farmers who are already here. The florists get practically all their flowers from the greenhouses in the south. We have 'jsst as good winters as they have so why not start greenhouses here and in the summer sell flower and vegetables to the local stores. We could also do with a few chicken farms to provide fresh eggs and market poultry. Look at all the silly magazines on the market. If here in Prince Rupert we started to print a real interesting one, it would sell I am sure. If everybody Just sat down and thought what he or she could do, we would be going forward.
