RUPERT THE MARKET across the Pacific is seen by Hon. James A. MacKinnon, federal minister of trade and commerce, as one of two great lievv opportunities for the expansion of Canadian export business. Such a realization by Mr. MacKinnon is of particular interest and significance to Prince Rupert. It is hard tb visualize any development of Canada's trade and commerce with tjie great outlets across the Pacific Without taking into account Prince Rupert's strategic position. fore Prince Rupert may be expected to loom large in any attentions that Mr. MacKinnon's department may pay in that direction. ' y ! The Minister of Trade and Commerce, as is well known, has been very active in the development of Canada's trade with Latin America and there has been a good measure of success resulting from that activity. It is gratifying to hear that Mr. MacKinnon is now realizing the possibilities across the Pacific. An Edmonton man himself, he is doubtless cognizant and appreciative of the possibilities of Prince Rupert in that connection. ; The Chamber of Commerce, at its last meeting, expressed desire that a federal cabinet minister should ' soon favor" this place with a visit. There could be no more timely such Visitor than Mr. MacKinnon. Now they are being organized all over the country in almost every community, large or small, where ther is a flying field. No doubt there will be a flying club in Prince Rupert once the municipal air base, the opportunity for which is now available, requiring only the city to avail itself of highly reasonaoie terms, becomes established here. Aviation is still one of the newer vocations or hobbies, whichever one may choose to make it. To be able to encourage aviation among local young men and women will be another of the advantages of having a public air base here. DON'T QUIT THERE ARE TIMES when doubt I and discouragement confront even the most valiant when we seem up against a stone wall in which there is no gate. We see no way out of our immediate problems and these swamp us mentally and spiritually. Then is the time to stop and take stock of the situation. To look at things in their proper perspective, to see what in our own thoughts is the stumbling block. It was Shakespeare who said "Our doubts are traitors, and make us lose the good we oft might win by fearing to attempt." Long before him, Seneca had said, "A great pilot can sail even when his sail is rent." To both men the cure for defeat for doubt and discouragement was action Be not afraid of the outcome. Your fear is of your own ability, not of outside circumstances. Have faith in yourself and go ahead. Don't be afraid of doing too much. It is better to wear out than to rust out. There is something you can do Decide what it is nd do it! "Success is failure turned inside out The silver tint of the cloud of doubt, And you never can tell how close you are, It may be near when it seems afar; ; So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit . , " It's when, things seem worst that you must not quit." Ruth Taylor. "MILEAGE MILLIONAIRES" LONDON P British Overseas Airways Corporation has a name for 52 of its pilots "mileage millionaires." Each has flown more-than 1,000,000 miles.
