Teachers' Association last night presented such a brief to city council Nvhich endorsed It after short discussion. The brief was one prepared by the B.C. Teachers' Federation for endorsatlon by municipal councils. It scored the "undemocratic" tendency of the pixsent statute which deprives teachers of the right to sit on municipal councils. Basis of the claim Is that school board employees are not direct employees ot the municipality. It cites as an example the case pt a school teacher who was elected to the North Vancouver municipal council, only to be disqualified because he held an employment contract with the city. Agreeing that It would be "democratic" to allow teachers to hold civic office, the aldermen pursued the matter to the point of wondering who would vote oh school board estimates it.
