REC COUNCIL GIVES FUNDS TO CIVIC CENTRE Prince Ruperi Recreational Council, parent of the robust Rup-Rcc movement now operated by the Civic Centre, voted Itself out of existence last night, bequeathing Its worldly wealth to the Civic Centre Association. During its slightly more than a year of existence, the council, formed in June 1945 to be the operational arm of the Civic Centre movement, handled more than $5,000, of which $1,400 was turned over to the Civic Centre last night. Of this, $427 had originally been a Civic Centre contribution to an equipment fund prior to the time when the present build ing was acquired, In its initial stage, the Recre ational Cou'jcil was responsible for the formation of gymnasium classes, outdoor sports program and other recreational activities which later became the responsibility of the Civic Recreation Board, and now the Civic Centre Association. Of the money turned over to the Civic Centre Association last night. $1,045 was turned Into the general operating account to sustain operations of the Civic Centre. The money was compiled by subscriptions from organizations in the city which contributed to It in amounts varying from $5 to $100 monthly. The War Department announced that it will discharge immediately .all nonessential non-volunteer enlisted men returning from overseas who are (1) not needed at their domestic posts and (2) are within six months of their discharge date. In addition, the army ruled, enlisted men In overseas or domestic posts who are within .six months of separation will be discharged Immediately if they can prove that they intend to enter a college or university Immediately or they are not critically needed by the army.
