ASS'N At the last meeting of the executive of the Prince Rupert Parent-Teachers' Association it was felt that the people of the city should 1: reminded of the past accomplishments of the organization. The association Is designed to afford the parent and others interested in education opportunities to meet with the teachers of the schools and discuss mutual problems. To tliis end, monthly meetings are held, the third Wednesday of each month being' the regular date. Meetings are held In th,e schools or at the Civic Centre. Topics of mutual Interest are considered at these meetings. Newest developments In educational practice are criticized. The reasons for and objections to methods are discussed and an alert education-consciousness Is sustained. It is only 'by such meetings between parents and teachers that the best can be done in the education of our children. The association has always taken a lead In maintaining a city-wide Interest in education and educational facilities. They have beer, active in persuading 'uitable organizations to offer themselves as candidates for. the board of school trustees. Tfie psociatlon is recognized by the city council and. board of trustees alike as bein? the mouthpiece for educational Interests of the community. In a more direct way the association for many years ha assist ed the sf-hnols. It. provided almost the only source of funds for the schools for sports equip ment Without that support sport might have died. For this, the oupils and teachers are greatly Indebted. More recently, through lag days, substantial monies werc-ra'sed for needed educational ' ni'lnment. In 1943 money was rni'sod so that each of the three larger schools was .given $140 and Seal Cove was given $55. In 1944 by a, tag day upwards of $100 -was raised and then, by a canvass of business men, an ad id'tional $900 was raised, s0 that necessary books could be purr chased. So'lmpressed were the city council and the school board by this feature, that the following year they made the necessary grants for books for the srhools. Last year thf Paren Teacher Association set'as its objective the supplying of a movie projector for the elementary schools and this machine is now on order.
