Watts and Nickerson had just nine players on hand whereas Savoys were able to call on 12, Forbes and Antoine were the battery for the clothiers. Bill pitched and Pustak and Pavlikis caught for the hotel men. Both pitchers gave up only two walks each. Bill struck out six and Forbes struck out eight but the Savoy nine did the heavy hit-ling. M. Simonson and Walter Johnson each had a two-bagger. Johnson to Arney to Davis was a neat double play. A17 THE NEWSPAPER REPORTER You may pick up any paper, published in most any town, And you Just glance at the headlines and your eye runs up and down Along the printed columns, with the "ads" of store and shop, For maybe you are busy, and you haven't time to stop-Then, all at once your glance will light upon a bit of news . That you've simply got to finish, no matter what you lose A fire or a murder, or perhaps a baseball game, And written by some fellow who forgot to sign his name. It may be something funny or it may be something sad, Or dramatic, or pathetic or perhaps it makes you mad, Telling of some steal or other that's been made by trusted men, Showing up a gang of grafters who are subjects for the "pen." Anyhow, you read it twice, and save it up to read aloud When you get back to ,the office and it passes through the crowd, Talked of by ten thousand people yes, and quoted as it came From the pen of some poor devil who forgot to sign his namel He writes this unknown genius on all subjects, good and bad, And he has the biggest audience that author ever had. The nation laughs and weeps to read the tale he has to tell. And he has to tell them quickly, so he has to tell them well. He's not obliged to write his stuff and then sit back and wait For readers half a lifetime tomorrow'll be too late! And yet no book or manuscript will e'er record his fame, For when he's done his writing, he forgets to sign his name! Army Nearly Billetted Here (Continued irom Page 1) guns were placed at Ttyee ana the navy patrolled the Skeena off Port Essington. -", "I know the men fould have loved to patrol the Skefnan railway speeders but we knew that it would add up to-a lot of casualties' Col. Johnston commented. Battle Headquarters , " Were Opened Here "The Canadian Army practically opened battle headquarters at Trlnce Rupert, and was solng to turn the post office and customs office out of the Federal building," he continued. "I sincerely believe that they were hoping to see action here so that they could say they had seen action before General MrN'augh-ton." On .May 20, 1911, two Japanese cruisers, two transports and escort vessels were lying 400 to GOO miles off this toast and the crisis was considered so grave at local defence headquarters that the American Army commander turned 980 of his service troops over to Col. American army military police took a dominant part in patrolling the city at that time because there were 250 American provosts posted here and only eight Canadian provosts, Col. Johnston said. Col. Johnston emphasized, the impcrtanci of documentation of the men's records of army life. Meticulous documentation of soldier's records often meant the difference between a man beinr; able to prove legitimate casualty claim after he left the army, he pointed our. SPEEDING AT 10 M.P.II. "Our resolution Is not so far fetched as it might seem," he declared at the organizing meeting of the Terrace branch of the B.C. Automobile Association. "Several Alaska Chambers of Commerce have submitted identical resolutions to the convention to which they will send delegates." Several of the Alaskan resolutions expressed the belief that, if the Canadian or British Columbia governments showed a determined effort to have the road surfaced, the American government might go so far as to put up half the money required for the Job. "The Alaska chambers of commerce emphasize that they would like to see the hard surfacing herein at the Prince Rupert end of the highway," Mr. McAdams asserted.
