Dr. Joseph T. Mandy, former resident mining engineer for the northwestern mineral survey district and for the past few years located at Vancouver, underwent an operation in the private ward pavilion of the Vancouver General Hospital this week. Later in the season, Dr. Mandy Is expected to visit Stewart in a consulting capacity in connection with Stewart Canal Gold Mines. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Durham, who have been spending the past three months in Vancouver, arrived In the city on the Cardena this morning from the south and are the guests of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs-Albert Blackhall, Westvlew, be fore proceeding to their home at Usk. Accompanying Mr. and Mrs. Durham were their grand son. George Durham,, who served as a flight lieutenant with the Royal Canadian Air Force overseas, and his war bride who arrived about a month ago from Britain. E. Insul-ander and Lloyd Morris of CFPR was one of the most interesting that they have had. Bringing with them equipment needed for making recordings and then playing back the recordings to the children, Mr. Insulander and Mr. Morris ex plained and demonstrated how electrical sound was recorded and then played back. All the children from Grade I to Grade VI were given the opportunity, through speaking a few sentences, to hear their voices recorded. Then they heard their own speeches played back to them. In addition, the senior choir sang two selections and these were also played back to the pupils. It was a memorable event. On behalf of the children, his staff and himself. J. S.
