Bunoz In the presence of a soodly- Vizcd congregation consisting largely of deceased's old parish-loners desirous of renewing expression of the affection and respect, Most Rev. Anthony Jordan. Bishop of the Roman Catholic vicariate of Prince Rupert, as a solemn and Impressive service in Fatrvlcw Cemetery yesterday afternoon, officiated at the dedication of a handsome memorial to the late Most Rev. Emil Marie Bunoz, O.M.I., who passed away on June 3 of last year, after having served for nearly 40 years as head of the diocese. The memorial takes the form of a handsome six-foot marble monument raised as a result of subscriptions from the friends of the vicariate. It bears the Inscription: "In Loving Memory of Most Rev. Emlle Marie Bunoz, O.M.I., first vlcar-apoijlic of Prince Rupert, B.C., 1864-1945. R. I. P.", Bishop Jordan was assisted in the dedication by Fathers W. F. Lantagne and Joseph Carroll with George Qillls, Edward Clou-tier, Lawrence Moore and Bernard DcJong as attending choir boys. The choir of the Cathedral of the Annunciation was also present and sang the "Libera" at the opening of the rites and the hymn, 0 What Could My Jesus Do More?" The tribute of the Bishop to his lamented and illustrious predecessor was a3 follows: "Eleven months ago every home in the parish was plunged into mourning when the beloved head of our diocese breathed his last. At the solemn funeral service on June 7, Ills Excellency the Archbishop of jVancouvcr said that many monuments would remain as the fm'it of Bishop Bu-noz's labors. Among these monuments he cited, as the greatest. your undying affection for him. Your presence here today in such large numbers bears eloquent testimony to the stability, sincerity and warmth of that affection. "We are .gathered to honor the memory of our late great Bishop by dedicating this stone erected over the place where he Is burled. Intimate knowledge of the prob lems that confronted him only serves to emphasize the wisdom with which he acted. The pas sage of time, I venture to say, .vill enhance and' embellish his eputation as a founder of the hurch. You who knew him so well need not be reminded that strong faith and love of God were the wellsprhigs of his life. (lis motto as a bishop was "Jesus Christ must reign.' Every day, by word and example, he sought to realize this glorious ideal of his episcopacy. "May the noble life of this man of God ever inspire us to '.Ike deeds of grandeur. His integrity and fortitude, his unswerving loyalty to God are dally incentive to all. The holiness of his life was such that, while we pray for him, we may also, be allowed to ask his Intercession for us. "Eternal rest grant unto him. O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the sobls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest In peace.
