Monday the thermometer reached a maximum of 80 degrees above zero. A week ago rain was very heavy, the rivers rising over five feet. Fortunately no serious damage has been reported. The Northern British Columbia Power Company discontinued the use of the hydraulic power plant at Barney's Gulch and is operating the auxiliary diesel plant until the waters resume their normal level. THREE SCHOOLS WILL OPERATE Teachers Obtained for Stewart, Premier and Alice Aim STEWART - There will b three schools In the Portland Canal district, reports the Secretary of the Board, Mrs. B. C. A. Lees the Stewart Superior School, Premier School and Alice Arm School. The Board has been successful in finding teachers of a high calibre for all of them. R. M. Sweeney, of Vancouver will be principal of Stewart Superior School with Miss Jo Sharpe returning to her duties with the junior grades. R. E. Allen, also o: Vancouver will be the teacher at Premier school and J. K. Schunaman o5 Vancouver will be m charge of the Alice Arm school. The Stewart school haj been undergoing renovation under M. Bobby Behnsen was in bed. with a bad cold when his mother shouted out to him to get the gun as a bear was tryin? to get Into the chicken house. Bobby got Into his bathrobe and came downstaij-s with the gun and, although shaking with his cold and excitement, he managed to dispatch Bruin. The bear weighed about five hundred pounds, it is estimated. A picture was taken of the bear and the young hero. Bobby Is only 14 years old and is rather proud of his exploit.
