Herring are reported Bav and Port Simpson areas in a big way and the ! McPadden brothers' herring pond at Hunt's Inlet is said to be ready for the spawning runs there. Last year's" spawning run at Hunt's Inlet was disappointing but it is hoped that this year will be better. The Canadian Fishing Co.'s pound at Klecntu Is said to be still incomplete due to difficulty in getting fine mesh wire for the enclosure. The pounds are used to hold herring for live bait for the hall- bult fishery. So far this season, 90 boat owners have taken out trolling licenses, which indicates a big-ser off-shore salmon season than last year. Up to the end of March, 1943, only slightly more than 60 trolling licenses had been Issued. However, although the demand for licenses this year Is great, It is reported that not all those who have taken out licenses have gone fishing yet. However, when the salmon run increases, the working fleet will also expand. The United States Army fire barge BSP-1777, which has .safeguarded the Prince Rupert waterfront from fire since August, 1944, is being moved today to Juneau. Alaska, by a United States Army tug which arrived from Seattle Friday afternoon. Manned by U. S. Water Division troops during the war, the barge was equipped and commissioned here to .protest the American waterfront installation although It was on call for service on any part of the waterfront.
