Saturday's bright sunshine split the local skiers into three groups on Sunday one party drove out to Mt. Blaine, another were up on Mt. Hays and a smaller group decided it would be a great day to try the harbor for spring salmon. The general opinion Sunday'night was that skiing was the most profitable. Nick Kru'K, Eileen Winsklll, Art Hardwick and Bert Bartlett toured from corn snow to powder snow climbing every foot of Blaine's 3.40Q from the 1,500-fcot cabin. They claim that skiing conditions could not have been better with everything from the weather to the magnificent view a skier's paradise. The snow varies in depth from ten to 25 feet, indicating that sklin? should be good out there for another two months. Mt. Hays's north siopes are well covered with over 12 feet of snow and skiing should be all right there for some time yet Swede Morse, who skie d ther? last year on May 24, with Harry Edgar, thinks it will be a snap to beat that record this year. Under the expert guidance of Roy Austen, R.CJvF., a group" of excellent skiers are developing and by next year they will be in geed shape to take the bacon away from the Smithers plank-stcrs they hope! Tonight Roy js showing a group of movie lilmsin the Civic Centre auditorium and anyone interested is invited to come and see them. He has several feet of the Smithers meet, some shots of skiing on"01dfield ana Hays anJ some other films of fishing and general sports. The Ski Club appreciates the" use of the Centr for this and hopes to he able ro co-operate with Rup-Rec next fall by providing ski instruction on the local slopes. It 15 20 years or more since the game has teen played much here. It was only an outdoor game then. However, the Civic Centre, which has already done much tc bring athletic-mjndpd people together, has created, contact between at least half a dozen former lacrosse players who would like to see boxla begin in the Civic Centre gym with outside lacrosse during the summer. Charlie Maundrell, who comes from a family of lacrosse players, describes it as "the fastest game on two feet." "We are finding opportunity for : practically every other type of sport at the Civic Centre. I think that we can also arrange to play Canada's national game." he said. Then tjiere is Bert Schuman, a former Vancouver man with an outstanding background In lacrosse. Bert began his career bv p'avincr for the Vancouver Bluebirds, a junior team during th seasons of 1935, '30 and '37 and later with surh senior teams an the Vancouver Burrards in "38 and '3d and the Richmond Farmers in 1040 and '41.
