Box 544 FRASER STREET Prince Rupert Today Basketball A few words are necessary to I clarify the situation regarding ' the sudden changes in the plans for the Ketchikan-Prince Rupert basketball series this weekend and here is the story in full: After Ketchikan had been contacted and they expressed their willingness to come March 8 and 9, a telegram was sent to New Metlakatla Inviting thein down for the same dates so that a tournament could be planned well in advance of the dates mentioned. At that time the'New Metlakatla team could not see their way clear due to other commitments so that matter was dropped. Just yesterday morning word came through that the New Metlakatla team could make it here Friday and Saturday, So the show must go on. ( On Friday the Intermediate All-Stars will meet the New Metlakatla boys and the Senior All-Stars will meet Ketchikan, these two games to be repeated Saturday ! night. The winners of th Intermediate vs. Metlakatla and Seniors vs. Ketchikan games will then play off on Sunday afternoon for the championship of j the tournament. It is also planned to have the losers meet in each case but. should Ketchikan lose and not make the final, they will probably leave for home early Sunday in order to have their boys back to their jobs for Monday morning. This is undoubtedly going to be the greatest basketball show ever offered the fans here and the fact that the Intermediates, as a team, are being given the chance to show themselves In senior lntertown competition adds greatly to the attraction. The senior team intended to usa no less than three of the intermediate boys ion their lineup namely Joe Davis, BQyo Gurvich and Mella Holkestad-but, since there was such criticism of the lack of opportunity afforded these three boys in the recent Const duardpserles, t1sMelt .much better that they'be given the chance to show themselves on their own. One matter that is definitely botherinsjheprompters 0f this show is that of sufficient seating. When we look back to realize that a crowd of four or five hundred was considered very large in pre-war days, it is cer- I tainly gratifying to know that because there are only 700-odd reserved seats the seating com- j mittee is very concerned. Wal-I ter Johnston, captain of the Senior All-Stars, is in charge of the seating. Bob Moxley, popular local lad who has taken part in nearly every line of sport since he attended public stfhool, will carry the play-by-play broadcast to those of you who 'choose to stay by ithe fireside.
