RESERVE BOWS TOTAXIMEN IN FASTBALL An eight-run .scoring spree in the fifth, inning secured a 13 to 5 victory for .99 Taxi over Reserve Army in the first play-off game of league fastball at Gyro Park last night although it can be said for the Army men that the darkness of late evening did much to confuse their fielding in the final inning. The game was the second of a double - header .played before packed bleachers and Reserve, which fielded a surprisingly youthful team, managed to more than hold their own with Murray's Mastadons until the final debacle. The game ended at the filth inning on account of darkness. The Taximen started the scoring with a single by Bob Houston In the first and managed to rln; up three runs, one on a hit by Benny Wlndle, and one by Cal-deronl oh a field error before being forced into the field. Reserve came back in the second with four runs which put them in the lead. Mlrjor Slmund-son and Mostad came in off singles, and Watmough and Vukovich made the circuit after being walked. In the third Inning, 99 Taxi took the .lead by a single run after MontesaDo and Qurvlch, both of whom walked to base, came in from a - double bv Ratchford. lukovlch brought home a run for Reserve at the top of the fifth from a single, to tie the score at 5-5. The lads never stopped fighting and went into their half of the seventh and last inning trailing 3 to nothing. This was in spite of a sparkling display? of errorless ball. The lucky seventh proved to be Just that for the High School boys when Franx James led off with a Texas leaguer, S. James, Wesch anaV Pierce followed with safe hits, Scherk ground out, Forbes drove a tcreamer over third base, Hartwlg was safe on an error and the score was tied. Ted Arney, on the mound for General Motors, forced Sharpc to ground out to the Infield and seemed to have stemmed the tide, but Johnson at shortstop and Minor Simundson at third base for Motors got their signals mixed when both tried to field Forman's hot grounder and he was safe on first while Fierce and Forbes scored the tying and winning runs. Arney struck out the next High School batter to end the- inning but the damage was done In the last half of the sev enth the High School infield gave Wesch, their moundman, perfect support. CLOSE FINISH IN BOWLING LEAGUE Jack Paul's Team Wins From Sid Thomson Taking advantage of improved weather Jack Paul and Sid Thomson completed their regularly scheduled fixture in the C.N.R.A. Bowling League last evening with Paul edging out Thomson on the last end. The game had been started some weeks ago but had been called at the end of the sixth end on account of rain. Play was continued last evening with the decision ln doubt till the last end. One shot would have given Thomson the game but Paul was able to keep his opposing skip from getting that last vital bowl ln and won b7 the good margin of 17-10. It was a keenly contested finish.
