Rp n- tnrlstopherson Naval Vet Francois Lake Pioneer Dead Uobert Kankin Jeffrey Had Colorful Career in Many Parts of World BURN'S LAKE Many friends and relatives of the late Robert Rankin Jeffrey will regret to hear that he died In New Westminster Hospital after sustaining severe hip injuries from which he never recovered. He was a colorful pioneer of this district andihad an adventurous career. He died 'in his ninety-fourth year. Mr. Jeffrey was born at An-drle. Scotland, in 1851 and learned the engineering profession In a Glasgow shipyard. He was superintendent of Singapore docks for 25 year.s and served with the Russian Navy as demonstrating engineer under Admiral Count Alexieff. While with Count Alexieff he visited San Francisco and Vancouver and in 1883 decided to retire from active service but was persuaded to return, to Slneapore for 10 more years as superintendent, of the dry dock Returning to Canada In 1933 he purchased land at Cowlchan Flats. Vancouver Island, where he managrd a dairy farm for eight years successfully. In 1D09 Mr. Jeffrey cam to Francois Lake with the late L. O. Forde to nick out a new home, then returned to Vancouver Island. In 1910 he returned with his family, stock and equipment, building a huge raft at the head of Francois Lake and rafting his big outfit to his choice location midway on Fraicols Lake on the north shore. Mr. Jeffrey was pre-deceased by his wife. Christine Mulrhead Jeffey, three years ago and leaves to mourn his loss sons and daughters with their children scattered over the length and breadth of British Columbia. He Is survived by the following direct descendants: his son, James, his wife and four children. Albert, Bobby, Everett and Phyllis, of Francois Lake; hU daughter Jennie (Mrs. Hazcn D. Long, of Vancouver), her three children, Robert, Ethel and Jessie. he latter now being Mrs. Richard R. Reeve of Victoria; son Thomas, married and .living at. Burns Lake, with one daughter dele, living in Sear-tie.
