McLaren, of Bundaberg, Queensland, successfully operated on himself for appendicitis. McLaren, a veterinary surgeon, was attacked by acute appendicitis. Alone, except for a Filipino boy, he cut his body open without an anaesthetic. While the Filipino held a mirror over the wound he removed his own appendix anfl sewed up the Incision. Alfred Sheldrake and his wife spent their honeymoon together on Christmas 1945 but they had been married since 1933. In those 12 years, they had only a few hours together. , member of the permanent army. L.-Cpl. Sheldrake had four days leave to get married and then t-ailcd for the West Indies with his regiment. Nearly two years later he came home but stopped only six hojirs at Southampton where, he saw his wife there. Posted to Palestine and then to Singapore, he received his discharge in August, 1939, only to have his sailing cancelled when war broke out. Joseph Vernon Srotyr, United States Army, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Srotyr, Cicero, Illinois. The rite was performed by Hon. Capt. H. W. Ker-le y, Canadian Army chaplain. Lovely in floor length gown of white silk lace and net, bouffant style, the bride entered the church on the arm of her father to the strains of the Wedding March, played by Miss Owen McRae. Over her head the bride wore a floor length veil with a crown of orange blossoms. She carried a bouquet of deep red roses. Her bridesmaid, and only attendant was Miss Betty Grelg, who looked beautiful in a floor length gown of pink, net. Her shoulder length veil was held by a halo of pink flowers. She carried a bouquet of pink carnations and blue irises. Groomsman was Pfc. Clifford Flegel, U. S. Army. ' During the signing of the register, a sold, "Because," was played by Miss McRae at the organ. A guard of honor composed of six comrades of the bridegroom stood at the doorway of the church as the bridal couple left for the reception which was held at the American Army day room on First Ave. More than 100 guests were present at the reception. The room was decorated with wed ding bells and streamers. The bride's parents received the guests, Mrs. Dunlngton wearing , a black street length ensemble with corsage of pink and wjilte-carnations. Toast to the bride was propose ed by H. F. Glassey, while P. H, Llnzey offered the toast to the bridesmaid. Responses were made by the bridegroom. A toast to the bridegroom was proposed by Lieut. Ernst. Decorated with tapers and bowls of baby mums' the bride's table was centred with a three-tier wedding cake which she cut in traditional fashion. Refreshments were served to the guests, the serviteurs being Miss Mlmmy Johnson, Miss, Mona McRae, Miss Barbara Moran and Miss Norma Hllland.
