For interested conn- j tries, his name Is E. McDonald ( Bailey, and he has ail the at-1 tributes of a great champion, including a stout heart and determination. The 20- year n old Jamacion equalled Eric LlddellV' 23-year-old British record of 9.7 seconds over the distance in Ihree succesive starts this year, but, according to officials the first two didn't count. He gained recognition on .the third try. Bailey's first record - equalling dash was ruled out because oi a "short track"; his second be cause officials said a "strong wind" helped him. But the Brit ish Jesse Owens wasn't daunted. Sports .writers plugged for him.' some even hinting the "color line" had something to do with the no-record decisions. j Bailey finally gained recognition before a Bank Holiday crowd of 50,000 at White City Stadium, London, in an England-France track meet. There was no wind; no doubt about the; measurement of the track; no snags anywhere. Off to a slow start, he hurtled into a lead over his three rivals before the halfway mark and breezpd home three yards In front. Ninety minutes later, officials announced the younster had equalled Liddell's record and the huge crowd gave him thun derous applause. It was learnpd ( later he had pulled a leg muscle j in the dash. Sports writers now j are optimistic the dusky runner; ! will break his record and it (wouldn't surprise anyone who 'has seen him if he did. After nearly every traffic accident, the claim "I had the right right of way and taking it does not help much if it lands you for life. When approaching an intersection, it's a good idea to assume that the other driver has never heard of "the right of way." You may lose a few seconds but you may save a life. Temporary chairman Fred Jenson feels that the display of interest carries strong assurance that In spite of the fact that the club will have to use sea planes In the absence of a land ing field here, an active club' can be formed to train private , fliers. j "The fact that we have to use j float planes will make things i more difficult than if we could ' use land planes," he said, "but I don't know of any reason why j we cannot do It." If Terrace can organize a flying club with t 20 members, we should be able to do It with a hundred." It is likely, Mr. Jenson said, that the Terrace and Prince Rupert clubs will co-operate In training, giving the trainees the ' chance to learn the methods of land and seaplane flying. A suggestion has been put forward that the local club employ a Piper "Cub" plane for train -In. The Terrace club uses a Tiger ".Moth."
