Two very keenly contested panics in the semi-finals of the Novice Bowling competition at the local C.N.R. bowling greens last 'evening resulted in Skinner vrinning from Reid Dy 18-14 and Morgan winning fiom Mrs. Bohn by 18-17. In the Sktnsr;-:;cld match klmier got away to an early Cad and on the oth end wa.s leading 10-2. Reid won the next two ends but Skinner was lead-ins 13-4 at the ninth. Held then won the next five ends to tic the score at 13 all at the four-Irrnth end. Skinner won the next two but Reid won the seventeenth end. Of course bowlers arc not superstitious but nevertheless that number seemed to provide a mental hazard. Skinner was at 13 for six ends before he won an end. Frank Dibb alsostayed at 13 for .six ends, and even Benson stood at 13 f6r four ends. Of course from their opponents' point of view that was all right. Dave MacPhrc will tell you, and quite properly too. that "touches" arc not the best 'indication of the quality of a bowler. It is "weight" that counts. But touches are an Indication of the aim of the -bowler and in the Skinner-Reid match Skinner had elcht "touches in eight ends and twelve In the whole match. Rcld had four. Yes, it was a good game. And there were many calls for, Dave. Dave", particularly In the Forbcs-penson duel as a "measure," was needed to decide whose point it was. An Interested spectator and guest who took part In a friendly rink match was Rev. Canon Smith of Bclllngham. who is visiting his son-in-law G. H. Stanbrldge of the Queen Charlotte Air Lines. It Is a story of a Roman Catholic priest who is assigned to the pastorship of a sisters' school In a great city, the sister superior of which is a broad-minded young woman. Comedy constituents, delicately handled, make the picture a happy delineation although there are also moments of heartwarming pathos. It Is one of those tender pictures which tug at the pulse strings and make one feel that there are many good things In life. Blng Crosby has the part again of Father O'Malley In which he became so beloved In "Going My Way." Ingrid Bergman Is the warm-hearted nun who, despite the cloth, still has vivacious and deeply understanding qualities. Henry Travers, as the millionaire who turns benevolent, and William Bergman, as an errant hqs-band, Ruth Donnelly, the devoted wife, and Joan Carrol, new Juvenile star, play other prjnclpal parts.
