Jerry O'Brien, mouthpiece of the London polo league, Is enthusiastic about the game's chances after a couple of "International" gamei with France, both in Paris and in London. Launching of a professional com petition next year v.tth a British United States match as a head-liner is his aim. The amatecr bicycle poloists now are drawing crowds of about 4,000 but promoters -think they could do better If the game 'graduated' to the money bracket But before this can happen negotiations must be made with the football clubs for use of thsir stadiums as summer-time tenants. If the promoters can convince the soccer clubs the profession- al game would be an attraction. they hope for crowds of 20,000 to 30,000. A reader of the Sunday Reynolds News has something to say, and not at all complimentary, about the annual Gentlemen-Players cricket match at famous Lord's. He says he reads "with nausea" the annual match Is being revived under "that abhorrent title." "The snobbish taint cannot but ers have these." Eric Hollies, fair-haired Warwickshire bowler of leg-breaks and "googlles," drew sports writers' praise when he took ail I10 Nottinghamshire wickets In a English county game at Birm- ingham.
