DONALD IS HONORED Navy and Merchant Navy Officers in King's Birthday list Many residents of Prince Rupert in the early days of the war will be pleased to see the name of Captain Colin Degge Donald, R.CN., included in the King's birthday list of honors as an officer of the Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.). Captain C. D. Donald arrived In Prince Rupert the latter part or August, 1939. and was busy organizing the Fishermen's Reserve Patrol Service when war was declared. On the outbreak of war he was appointed naval officer-in-charge at Prince Rupert and was responsible for the early organization of the Prince Rupert naval base. Captain Donald served here until relieved by Commander Geoffrey Borrle. R.C.N.V.R., in January. 1940, when he was transferred to important duties in the south and on the cast coast Including that of naval officer in charge at Shelburne, Nova Scotia, which post he held until after the cessation of hostilities when he again returned to duty at Esquimau. Other well-known naval officers slmilary honored are Capt. V. S. Godfrey. Eng. Capt. A. D. H. Curry, Capt. R. A. Wright and Cmdr. McRae. Larry Thomson Receives Award In the same honors list, two weil-known B. C. coast pilots are rewarded with their war services and many years of duty on this coast with the M.B.E. They are Captains Daniel Clinton and Lawrence Thomson. Captain "Larry" Thompson Is well-known to the local watcrffont fraternity. Originally In the service of the Canadian Pacific Steamships, he has been for over 25 years in the pilotage service and was for some time resident pilot at Prince Rupert when grain shipments were more fre quent than now.
