He founded hfs prediction on the establishment of Prince Rupert as the irtnrth Pacific coast railhead for Alaska, an establish ment which war was creating and which would be so j firmly founded by the time the war was over that it would not be possible of diversion. ;) One has but to recall how Seattle became devel-; oped as the port of Alaska. History may well repeat itself in Prince Rupert. The trouble with many of Us1 Is that we have been so lontr accustomed to disap pointment that we can no longer see the real possi bilities. . As we have said before, it took a war to bring about the utilization of strategically located Prince' Rupert. Now it is being developed and, after the war s over, there is little reason to doubt but that it will continue to be utilized in the peaceful pursuits of trade and commerce between the nations, a trade port which will no doubt have industrial accompaniments. iToo Much Hush ... The most successful way in which to get public n-nnprnlinn in the winintr out of anv bad thing is to 'supply the public with facts; all the facts, no matter Si jw unpleasant they may be, says Maclean's Maga zine. First real progress in Canada s battle against tuberculosis and cancer came when people learned how many of their fellows were dying from these diseases. . The psychological reaction was, "This is serious. This is real. 1 must do all I can to protect myself and my ! fnmilv." Followed co-oneration in the jnatter of j ' i s" early diagnosis and treatment. "M SyPmns anfl gonorrhea, diseases too long regard- ' oil as unmentionable, constitute one of the greatest of all menaces to national health. At the recent National Venereal Disease Control Conference held in Ottawa, civilian doctors, members of the medical services of the armed forces, and . defence and health ministers spoke- frankly of the bituation, admitted its gravity, agreed that a national nrosram to combat these diseases was vitally neces sary. But Government department officials declined to make public statistics covering the incidence of venereal diseases in the armed forces. As we understand it, the objection is that with out full civilian figures, those of the armed forces could not be fairly compared ; that information con-coming the latter might serve as a deterrant to re cruiting. This strikes us as unsound reasoning. Veneral dis-! (inses don't originate in the services. They are spread ' by civilian and service personnel alike. Potential service recruits are not going to be frightened away by being told facts and having the assurance of protection. And the population of this country as a whole is surely adult-minded. The danger of any hush-hush, bogeyman policy is that it does not bring public realization of the extent of the danger, or of the necessity of general cooperative action to remove thaV danger. Only facts can achieve that purpose. "YYTYVYYTYYTTYVYYYYTTTTT t SHRIMP P Fn'sh Every Day Hoat "W.S.L." First Float West of Imperial Oil Co. p Dally after 4 p.m, A4AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA Wood Fuel J.
