As U customary, at the com pletion of the ceremony, the of ficiating padre instructed the soldier to "salute your bride." To the astonishment and de-took a regimental pace backlight of all present, the soldier ward and gave his bride the snappiest salute one ever saw and, even when everyone present began to howl wlUi laughter, was he quite sure he had done no wrong. ACTIVITIES OF Y.M.C.A. and Y.W.C.A. (By Dorothy Oarbutt) The Service Wives' Club met Thursday afternoon In the Ladles' Lounge at the Y. There' was a good attendance with ten ladles and ten children present, including several new members. Mrs. Sergeant won the raffle donated by Mrs. Gomes and Mrs. Toogood and Mrs. Rhodes served tea. The kiddles were all on their best behaviour. When I went to join the ladles for tea I could scarcely believe there were so many children there, they were so quiet. Must be the Influence of the Utile girls! Quite a few boys who have had East Coast and convoy service of several years are with us on the West Coast now, more or less as a rest for them. I have met several of them. One of them for three years had what they called The Murmansk Run." That is he was on convoy duty to that famous little north Russian port and was of special service because he could speak Russian. Another youngster, only twenty-one now. limps a bit when he walks and he says a bit wistfully "my wounds Interfere with my dancing a little. I find I can only waits now end I used to love to Jitterbug." He showed me two great bullet holes In his left leg. He was In the water on the AtlanUc for six hours and while there was machine gunned by the Jerries. Ills psl was with htm in the water for the same time. When they were rescued and only then his pal was found to be minus his legs. The shock killed him. Another youngster, thin-faced and weary tycd, told me "People tell me I've seen too much for my age." They saved only eight of the crew on his ship. These boys arc coming back to us, boys who know too much and have seen too much. Let us be ready for them. Let us offer them the gift of understanding. Don't ask them questions for the sake of hearing their stories but do listen sympathetically when they feel like talking. CFPR 1210 Kilocycles SCHEDULE IIUDAY IM. 4:00 Sound off 4:15-0. I. The Battalion ;s unfortunate In that the greater part of Us t.alnlng must be carried out under cover but every cloud has a silver lining and this very fact has allowed a greater amount of time to be spent on basic training than would 1m the case If the weather were kinder and the ground were drier. If our lot was cast In more delectable countryside our thoughts would be turned to the more pleasant features of soldiering but only at the cost of the poor handling of weapons.
