Nevertheless, the fight card has a timely place in the holiday period. On Tuesday evening, two of Prince Rupert's top - flight leather pushers will meet in the main event or what the B.A.C. boys promise will be a well-balanced card. They arc Sgt. Bill Porayko, of B.A.C., and Wcllman Wallace, of the VJS. Army. Both these fighters have made spectacular appearances in the local ring, Porayko winning by TJCO.'s in his last two fights and Wallace taking a decision from Urban Hernandez a while back. Both boys have trained hard and the fans are likely to sec plenty of colorful action. Porayko will fight at 168 pounds and Wallace at 164. In the seml-wlndup, Al La Rose, of the Canadian Army, a lad credited with experience in eastern circles, but a newcomer to the ring here, will meet Lloyd Shier of BA.C, Since both are unknown to the public as fighters, it should prove an Interesting bout. La Rose is expected to weigh in at 140 pounds, and Shier at 144. The card wll start off with a gymnastic display and will Include two battles royal. Beside the final and seml-wlndup, there will be seven individual matches. With the exception of Wallace, all contestants Includ ing the gymnasts have trained at the Boilermakers' gymnasium. The card: Gymnastic display. Battle Royal. Norman Sather, 110, vs. Harold Marshall, 110. Jordan Smith, DO. vs. Jack OLsen, 80. . Jerry Pcrrcault, 118, vs Douglas Shier, 11C. Battle Royal. Top singing star for many years. Miss Dui3jin Is presented in this as a fine young j actress as well. But that does not mean that she docs not also do some of her ever-appreciated singing. The piplure, adapted from W Somerset Maugham's novel of the same title; tells a story within a story and presents Diana in a dual characterization- -a worldly cafe entertainer, and a charming bride whose world collapses about her when, her lius band of six months commits murder. The film introduces Dcanna singing a torch song In a tawdry New Orleans cafe, and reveals her earlier years in flash-back as she relates the story of her life to a young Army lieutenant. Songs arc Irving Berlin's "Al-ways"-whlch the star sings twice and an original by Frank Locsser, "Spring Will Be a Little Late This Year." However, these numbers are made outstanding by the fact that Deanna sings them In a torch style never before employed by her. Gene Kelly, who co-stars with Miss Durbin, gives a fine perr formance as her husband. Kelly Is completely charming and yet thoroughly convincing as a killer moved more by weakness than malice. Richard Whorf as a newspaper reporter. Dean Harcns as the young lieutenant, Gladys George as the cafe proprietress and Gale Sondergaard as Kelly's mother, all come forward with good performances In exacting roles. Buy War Savings Stamps.
