PROCEDURE OF BALLOT RECOUNT Curiosity concerning the procedure of a vote re-count, made probable by the closeness of (Thursday's aldermanic elections, (was enlightened by City Clerk H. D. Thaln who explained that 'portion of the Election Act as I follows: I Any candidate seeking a recount must file an affidavit with la County Court Judge stating his of the original count. This affi davit must be filed within five days after the first count of the ballots. After considering the affidavit, the judge may order a recount II he feels such action Justified. Since It would put the city to considerable expense, sound rea sons are required before a recount Is. ordered. If sufficint reason is put forward, a recount Is then in order. IN LINE WITH TIMES The average distance a freight car now moves per day Is twicq. as great as It was In 1920. mML m m m Asm 1 -T&iE WONDER YARH YOU AND WE, of course, know of the; remarkable qualities of the nylon hosiery previously, available, but hosiery is only one of nylon's possible textile uses. liver since C-I-L's nylon plant at Kingston opened in VJ42, its total output has gone into such war uses as parachute cords and canopies, glider tow ropes and other essential war materials. Meanwhile, many peacetime uses other than hosiery have Indicated themselves to us. These every day uses have become apparent because of the unique characteristics of nylon yarn. There, is, for instance, its high strength and resistance to abrasion or wear. It dries quickly and preserves its original form and dimension. This extraordinary and hitherto unobtainable feature is what we call ."permanent setting". That is, a peculiar chemical quality of nylon yarn permits a fabric made from it to be set to shape by the application of heat. The fabric will retain this form under all normal wearing and laundcric g conditions. Just what this promises tOj. the ladies may well be imagined. .' 4'- Again, because of its chemical nature,, anything made from nylon is exceed-;V ingly unattractive to moths and highly' resistant to mildew. The strength and elasticity of nylon enables it to be made into textile yarns of a fineness hitherto impracticable. This. fine yarn will, in turn, after the war, make possible fabrics of previously unobtainable ihcer-ness. When nylon child of chemical research again becomes available forciyilians,it will be released to the knitting and weaving manufacturers for a host of new and improved textile products.
