Bingo, free refreshments, contests and colorful decorations were outstanding attractions at the affair which featured the music of Sgt. John Stroessler and the "Sophist!-cates." The Recreation Hall was decorated In red, white and blue motif, with War Bond advertisements serving as the main theme. The entire balcony of the building was devoted to a "Bingo for Bonds" concession operated by Frank Finnerty and Pete Wambach, of the U.S.O. The sounding of a loud' siren every time a prize was won added a novel touch to the fun. Sandwiches and coffee were se.rved to all those participating in the bingo games. Col. J. H. Mellom, commanding the sub-port of embarkation, served as chairman of the awards committee which judged the cake contest, another "Over The Top" highlight. Every organization on Acropolis, Hill provided a large cake, decorated with a War Bond slogan, which was entered in the contest and served with soft drinks as refreshments. Major J. Norton and WAC Lt. Ruth Talcott were co-members of the committee which awarded prizes to every man on the K.P. staff of the companies winning the contest.
