Have Largest Catches The halibut fleet got into its stride last week and kent fish buyers busy handling 800,300 pounds of fish which they unloaded from -15 boats in the seven-day period. Last Saturday was the heaviest day when 13 boats brought in 303,500 pounds. Total weight of fish landed in this nort from the season's start uu to insl Pridav was 1.368.800 rounds. I Of last week's catch 742.300 pounds was from Canadian boats and 64,000 from American. Although the American total was small compared with that landed by the Rupert fleet, an American boat had the distinction of bringing in the largest single haul to date. Friday the Portlock brought in 50.000 pounds which was sold to Storage at the established price of 15c and 13 V. Largest haul by a Canadian boat was 43,000 pounds brought in by the Lois N. on Wednesday. The Pierce, which unloaded last Saturday, and Uic Portlock were the only American boats to arrive last week. Prices paid for Canadian fish were 18V'c and 16V4. The records of the Interna tional Fisheries Commission show that for the period from Aoril 16 to May 31. 1944, tne 101- lowing total amounts of hali but have been landed In Pacific Coast ports from Areas 2 and 3: VS. Fleet Canadian Fleet Area 2 797,842 691.260 Total 1,489.102 The above figures are pre liminary and subject to amend ment. They arc no; eomrarable with the following 1943 landings, which commencea in volume more than a month earlier. In 1943, landings from April 16 to May 31 amounted to: Area 2 Area 3 Canadian Fleet 6.435.066 85,812 UJS. Fleet 7.247.194 5,743,325 Total 13,68260 529.137 No change Is reported to havr resulted from negotiations between salmon fishermen's organizations and the government in the matter of establishing prices for sockeye this season. It Is understood that the war-rime Prices and Trade Board agency and the canncrs are in agreement that the price icvei should remain the same as last year but that the fishermen want it hoisted to meet mcir claim of higher operating costs.
