RETURNING WARRIORS WELCOMED Written for the Canadian Preaa by 4 MURIEL ADAMS TORONTO, May 27 0 Representatives of various Toronto service women's auxiliaries de tailed to meet early - morning troop trains which are returning servicemen to their homes thmk being a troop train meeter In Toronto is a most worthwhile way to start the day. Irrespective of Inconvenience caused by telephone calls which may come at any time of the night heralding the arrival a few hours hence of a trainload of heroes back from the wars, thes? women like the chance they get to lend a helping hand. A pocketful of change, a couple of sharp pencils and a pad of paper are some of the things these train greeters must carry-besides a bright face and ready smile. The volunteer workers known by their blue armbands with bold lettering have many difficul ties. They help returned service men find their families, supply them with change for telephon ing, write messages to be sent to families In other towns If the men In question are In a hurry to make train connections and help wives of the flghUng men look after their little ones. BOY SCOUTS ' 1 1 KI P Boy Scouts are on hand to assist In checking train and bus schedules for harried and worried sailors, soldiers and airmen while members of the Toronto Citizens' Committee are available with their automobiles to drive happily-reunited city families to their homes. Procedure for the returning servicemen is much the same each time a train arrives. Once off the train and in the station proper the men are given a short break. There is much hurrying and scurrying until they find families and friends. After a brief reunion they are called back to formation to await for mal Issuance of leave, pay, trans portatlon, If necessary, and ra tlon books. Khakl-colored CWAC's then coffee and sandwiches after which the men are free to Join their own folks once again or to catch other trains or buses If their homes are outside Toronto IN FORMATION WANTED OH.VDU ' MARINES (5 NE aw J r A fl at 1 1 I to ,TmiL 1 VI I I K- l aaaaaaa i tri CENSORED BY SPEAKER BLACKPOOL,-Eng.. tt -Elijah Sandham, 68, former Labor MP., who once was censured by the .Speaker of the House of Conv mons for accusing MPs of accepting bribes, died here.
