However, It Is now argued that, with the country divided on the conscription matter, the case for an extension of the term in the event that the war does not end soon, is stronger than it was before. Normally, parliament's term expires next April. Conscription Issue Settled While the Dominion parliament rested over the week-end observes In the capital wers' pretty well agreed that the conscription crisis has now passed through the difficult stage. It Is believed now that the administration will have considerable support on the forthcoming vote of confidence motion. Developments in Friday's sitting indicate there will be no mass break of Quebec Liberals from government benches over the conscription issue. The Liberal member for Montreal-Merclar Joseph Jean suggested a ?ay by which Liberal Quebec members and other anti-conscrlptionists can , still support the administration and yet lodge their protest aalnrt conscription. Mr. Jean (moved an amendment urging that general service personnel jand volunteers overseas be used to the best advantage to provide .reinforcements without resorting to conscription, i Col. Ralston also his support of the King govern-Iment and it is believed many English-speaking Liberals will vote as the former defence minister does. The Opposition party, the Social Credi,t members, of whom there are 10 In Commons, have pledged their support of the government's vote of confidence motion. As yet C. C. F. leader Coldwell has not Indicated which way he and his nine followers will vote. There are also 39 Progressive Conservatives, all of whom are expected to cast their votes against the government. LETTERBOX MILKMAN ANSWERS Editor, Dally News: In answer to Mr. Olllanders' statement regarding milk delivery, he Is fortunate in living on Sixth Avenue and having his milk, delivered to the end of his walk. What about the hundreds of people who get none, or have to' walk several blocks for it? As for children stealing money from bottles, it only happens in the east end. Why tempet them by leaving money? The dairy has tickets for snJ. Fiirtr""1 It announced is not very nice. these Icy morn- ings to be digging coins out of bottles half -filled with ice, or water. i !As for door-to-door delivery it would call for three times the men, trucks, tires, gas, repairs, men to do them, etc., all essential war material. And If you could get all thesethings, where would you get the milk? or would Mr. Olllanders go up country and start a dairy farm? Every little bit would help. Two established dairies have already quit because there was too much work and not enough pay in it MILKMAN.
