JULY THE DAILY NEWS TROOPS ENJOY SERVICE SHOW Excellent Entertainment At Capitol Sunday NUht An excellent program was presented for the entertainment troops and service presonnel the Capitol Theatre on Sunday evening. The program feat ured a very smart dance or chestra, the old time musicians known as the "Rythm Rangers, and talented soloists who were all of an Ontario regiment, aid ed by the lovely singing of Miss Agnes Orant. and the capable corny, clowning of Miss Pat Love and Miss Evelyn Bussey. The opening number "In the Mood," a very smart arrange ment by the orchestra, establlsh- the spirit of the show, which moved on a smartly brisk pace from opening to close. Pte. Nor man Upper enchanted the audi ence with a splendid tenor voice singing "When Irish Eyes are Smiling" and "My Shining Hour." Following this a streamlined "M" Test was presented to two sailors and an Air Force Ser geant who went through their tests to the accompaniment of shrieks of laughter from 'the audience as each candidate grappled with his post-war problems by hanging out a long Une of articles ranging from long wooly flannels to the shear- est of ladies unmentionables. Following this a musical qulzz In the Professor Kay Kayser manner proved that the candidates were well informed musically and the aid of the audience was called for only once or twice. At the end of the musical qulzz program the charming Carnival Queen candi date for the Sons of Norway. Miss Eleanor Storseth, was in troduced to the audience. A violin solo by Pte. Otto Slater. "Hungarian Dance" evoked a great deal of applause and for his encore the soloist played "Intermezzo" which was very enthusiastically received. Songs by Pte. Len Stuart When the Lights Go on Again" and "I Wish I Could Hide In side This Letter" necessitated this artlsfs returning to the stage to acknowledge the numer ous calls of the audience. The "Rythm Rangers," under the guidance of CpL Thiebault. provided Joy to the lovers of wide open music and the singing of Hlll-Billy songs by Cpl. Phillipon added to the vast open spaces of the music- Following this grouping Miss Agnes Orant sang "If I Had My Way," "No Love, No Nothing," and the "Anniversary Waltz and was called back again and again by very vociferous rounds of applause. Next came a humorous monologue by Carl Clay. This in turn was followed by an unusual quartette enlisted from the orchestra who rendered "Ten ! Little Soldiers on a Ten-"Day Leave" in a truly masterly way but who found themselves unable to give an encore as that was the only record they had back-stage. This group of "fakers" was followed by Lieut. Ken Rogers who sang "My Heart Teils Me" which was so warmly greeted by the audience that he was called upon for an encore, this time singing "I Love You Truly." Following this Sgt. Buchanan. who had so capably accompanied soloists Slater and Upper, gave a delightful piano rendition of Hogey Carmlchael's celebrated -Star Dust." The orchestra then played two really hot numbers "Take It Easy" and their special arrangement of "Sweet Sue" which brought the program to a close. Carl Clay acted as master of ceremonies and his easy flow of repartee delighted the audience, kept the performers in an extremely happy vein and maintained a really smart and showman like pace throughout.
