The teaching profession has long been seeking a better deal in the way of salaries for its members in the rural areas, advocating that their remuneration should be more commensurate with the importance of the calling. There will, therefore, be gratification over the announcement in the legislature by the Minister of Education, Hon. H. G. T. Perry, that a very definite move is being made in this direction. The extension of the free text book plan and the increase of school grants to districts are other ac ceptable features of the the government s more generous policy on education.
