The section from Hope to Princeton has been entirely In the hands 1 of the Federal Government ' for the duatlon of the war. i It is at this point that they j have used a good deal of Japanese labor, although ! most of them have been transferred to production enterprises. Their object was to put a tote road through for purely military purposes. The road has not been made for commerce or tourist traffic and no one should now attempt to use It for that puropse. It will be a very costly undertakingestimated at some two and one half million dollars but the result, I am sure, will be well worth it. It will "serve' to bring" the great wealth of the Okanagan to the Coast In much less time than Is now possible and will be of im mense value from an economic viewpoint. It should be understood that when this work Is undertaken we - do not propose to open the road' to traffic until it is fully completed, and then it will allow us to divert all Okanagan traffic that way for a period long enoush for us to undertake major developments along the Fraser Canyon route. AS far as a tourist road is concerned it will give a circuit route of Inestimable value allowing visitors to come via that route and return through the scenic Fraser Canyon or vice vena. Between Vancouver and the Crows Nest we have ten en trances into the United States. At each of these points the American roads come to our doors with magnificent highways all that could be desired when they cross the Border the situation on our side is far from good. We propose to modernize all these entrances so that when our friends and visitors come to us or our people go to them we can be as equals. It should always be remembered that a good highway acts as the show window of the Province to those coming in from the outside. Through Interior To Prince Rupert "Up through the historic Carl - boo Road and on into the North to Prince George and east to the Alberta Boundary, and west to Prince Rupert of that Cen tral British Columbia point, the same program must be extend ed if we are to have a system of network of highways that are not only to be a credit to us but of economic value to the province as a whole." Capitol. The story Is based upon the incidents which actually happened to Commander Corydon M. Wassell. USX. and in turn were related by him and the wounded sailors whom he rescued from Java. Playing the part of Commander Wassell is Gary Cooper while Laralne Day portrays the role of a nurse whose love for the doctor Inspires him to great deeds. The story is one of an Arkansas doctor whose devotion to duty first brings him to China where he administers to its suffering . . till iitiii i ..At a millions. With the outbreak of ! war his Navy orders read Java . and he leaves for that base he I leaves also lovely Laraine Day the nurse in China who inspired him to discover the germ striking down Chinese people. The patting scene, It's said, is one of the more tender moments in the picture, for Dr. Waisell sacrificed j maft-lage to the nurse in face of his call to duty. ' An almost superhuman task faces he Navy Commander upon his arrival. Wounded sailors fr;m the VSS. Marblthead are being evacuated and the doctor's Vb is to shepherd them to safety The picture describes the detail of the long trip through Jap- Infested Jungles where capture or dea'th lurks behind every bush. The courage and heroism of the little staff who guarded these disabled jailors is almost beyond comprehension. The stirring drama is the re-enactment pf some of the incidents described in President Roosevelt's radio address extolling Dr. Wassell.
