THX DAILT NIWS MONDAY NAVY SHOW COMING UP "Ale e t the Navy" Opening in Prince Kupert on Wednesday Service men and women of the I armed forces In the Prince Rupert area are looting lorward to the Royal Canadian Navy show "Meet the Navy" opening here In the Naval Drill Hall on. Wednesday evening. While the show Is primarily arranged for the benefit of service personnel, each service man and woman can bring a civilian guest. If at all possible it Is hoped that a special show may ai ranged for civilians as a whole. Those who have already seen "Meet the Navy" in the East are loud In their praises of the show. It has been acclaimed by Life magazine and New World magazine who have each run full page pictures. Due to arrive with the cast Is Captain J. P. Connolly It.CN.V. R . the director of special services, under whose guidance "Meet the Navy" has grown from a small concert party which used to play to the troops in llama iu wic in vfut wuiu ikit sale way, has now assumed. ! keep the' m t er MiMtnt(M nif h rn rtn 1 Is Lieut. Stuart Robertson whose experience in the theatre and in music made him a welcome newcomer to Special Services when he Joined the Navy a year ago. Lieutenant Robertson, in ad ditlon to being the brother of Anna Neagle. the famous English movie actress, is an artist in his own right. An "honorary j Associate of the Royal College of j Music In London, Robertson Is 1 well known in musical circles in London as a singer and music adjudicator. He has recorded many songs for H. M. V. and was a frequent artist on BJJ.C. programs prior to his leaving for Hollywood a few years ago where he has been making films for M.G.M. The last picture he appeared In before Joining the Navy was Eric Knight's "This Above AIL" Lieutenant Cameron Orant, whose antics as Captain BUgh :n a burlesque on "Mutiny on, the Bounty." has been sighted by talent scouts from Hollywood wno have signed him up on a long term contract as soon as his hi. services ..... in . .1.. the Navy v are no longer required. Also in the cast is Lieut. Oscar Natzke whose rich bass voice has toeen heard In opera and concert in Moscow, Paris. Berlin and London. Acclaimed by Arthur Benjamin, the noted composer and conductor, now a resident of Vancouver, as one of the ilnest singers In the British Em pire, the Navy feels Justly proud to have him take pait in "Meet the Navy." OFFICERS AND RATINGS TOO The cast Is by no means restricted to officers as the ma jority of recruits for "Meet the Navy" have been drawn from the lower deck. An Instance of this Is Sick Berth Attendant Bill Richards who was discover ed In the R.C.N.- Hospital In Halifax. In his off watches Bill would take out his violin and play for his messmates. His beautiful tone, fine phrasing and bowing soon attracted the Special Service Officer in H.M. OS. Stadacona. It was not long before Richards was .again on the concert platform where he had been before the war. To gether with Chief Petty Officer Shipwright Tony Stctchlson, a native 0: Russian Ukraine, and Signalman Dixie Dean he play ed several thousand concert, for the servicemen In Halifax alone. Chief Petty Officer Stetchlson accompanies himself on the guitar while he sings' a rich, resonant tenor song. Wisely choosing the folk songs of his native country, he has sung his way Into the hearts of literally millions of Canadian men and women. Dixie Dean recently received his commission but he appears kwlth his accordion in square rig. Sub Ileut. Dean Is well known to most accordion players as his picture appears on the coyer of thousands of copies of sheet music for his choserl Instrument. Before the war he was teaching for Plctro Dlero in New York as well as giving concerts in that city. Also with the show Is Petty Officer Joseph Marks, talented violinist of Vancouver who Joined the show at the offset.
