RED 127 UNABLE TO RESCUE SON Further Details of Drownlnr In Naaj River of George Gosnell George Oosnell, 18 -year -old Naas River native fisherman, was drowned on June 8, within (sight of his father, whose efforts j to rescue his son In the swirling, ; muddy water off Ramsden point near the Naas mouth, were un-1 availing, Ell Gosnell, father of jthe drowned man, told B.C. Pd- once, who investigated the accident. The police returned to the city on Saturday night after dragging the tide-ripped area unsuccessfully for five hours. The two Oosnells, each operating a gill net boat, had Joined the ends of their nets together so that they could control them better In the strong current, Ell Gosnell told the police. In some way, the younger man's net had got fouled under the bottom of his bent and he began probing under the hull I with a pole to free it. Ell Gosnell told the police that he shouted to George who was about 100 yeards away not to try and free the net alone but to wait until he came over in a skiff to help. As he was near-ing his son's boat, he saw him fall into the water. George surfaced about IS feet away from the skiff and the father Jumped Into the water to rescue him. Dut before he could lay hands on his son, the young man had sunk in the muddy current. B.C. Police arrived In the P.MJ 15, later In the day and, with the help of other fishermen, dragged the area for about five hours. Rough water stopped the operations on Friday. A reward of $100 for there-covery of the body has been posted by Eli Gosnell. ! Sheriff M: M. Stephens left ;on last night's train for Winnipeg on a holiday trip.
