Nowhere else in Canada are the two organization working In such close harmony, using the same office, very often so far t me recreation nau is concerned doing each other's work. In Windsor they are housed in the same building but use separate entrance and have not established the feeling of a Family "Y" such as we have here where fathers, mothers, children and boy and girl friends meet and use the same recreation hall, canteen clubs which may have a large part In the postwar -schemea of rehabilitation. As I am affiliated with the YWCA I cannot give any author itative details on the work of the YMCA except to say that in Auxiliary Services parlance this Is a YMCA area and the (YMCA has the authority to service the troops, both the ser-i vice men and the service women I in this Prince Rupert area. And i they are doing a grand Job in this respect. They provide movies to the forto. the camps and at the Empress Hall to the men and their wives and chil dren. They organize the soorts programs and provide all the equipment. They furnish the recreation halls, men's and women's mease and sergeant's messes and run a canteen and service men's cafeteria I keen referring to the ser vires as for the service men but I hope you will mentally Include the service women as well. The Rlrls have only been with us seven months so that originally we tnouiht of such services as for the men alone although of course my particular work In the YWCA has alwavs Included their wires and children. The cafeteria under the very able direction of Pat Trant has ,been a veritable godsend to the troops The boys who are on 48's and those over from the forts with no mess to eat in find 1 the cafeteria with its reasonable prices and substantial menu a very large and useful And last but not the least of the morale building services of the YMCA have been the weekly Sunday night concerts In the Capitol Theatre. Sometimes there have been outside service shows such as the Edmonton Concert Party and the RCAF Joe Boys or the Vancouver Service shows. But these have been the exception rather than the rule and so week after week it has fallen upon the shoulders of the YMCA entertainment supervisor, at present Chester Lc Malstre, to organize a concert. And here it is also that the Prince Rupert people have come up trumps. Among those who have offered their servlcs both by giving a full evening's concert and In separate acts have been Mrs, Black, EL-sa Kraupner. Pat Love and Marie Boulter whose dancing class put on an entire program, the SesI Cove school children were responsible for the Christmas concert, the USED orchestra took over one evening and so on and the Prince Rupert Little Theatre Group produced "The Old Lady Shows Her Medals." Thus brleflr I have been able to give you some Idea of the scope and extent of the YMCA War Services work here. TH1 DAILY NEWS PAOE TURKS LOCAL NEWS NOTES Mr. and Mrs. C. W.
