It is interesting to observe how business people here and elsewhere are preparing themselves to be in as strong position as possible in the post-war period which there are indications will be with us before so very long now. Some are expanding by purchase or absorption of other businesses. Some, in spite of continued wartime restrictions, are finding it possible to build new or improve existing facilities. - Whilesome businesses have striven to maintain service and build up goodwill notwithstanding difficulties such as obtaining goods and staff, there are others who, succumbing to the difficulties, have made little effort to meet the desires of their customers. Some, indeed, have developed such a spirit in their places of business that the customer is made to feel that it is a favor to even yait,pn him. The wide-awake businessman is"' realizing that it will not be so very long now until the return to the condition where it will be more of a buyers' market than it is today, when the sellers will again have to exert themselves in competition to obtain business. Those who have endeavoured to maintain service and do what they can to please their customers during these difficult days of short supply and heavy demand will then capitalize on the goodwill they have sustained. Inciently, it might be mentioned that progressive business' people everywhere are today resorting more and more to advertising so tljat their names will be a by-word in the days when the buyers will not .be so hard .pressed to obtain goods and will, naturally, gravitate to the people who have served them well and whom they know. POOR FINLAND . . . Poor shifting Finland n .1 ; 1 a uatticgiuuiiu in Lite war. one is going inrougn tne travail such as Italy and the other nations which Jbecame Nazi puppets suffered because they thought they were on the winning side and later rec nted. Possibly, like the Italians, the Finns now feel that it might have been better had they fought at the outset against the dictators. Very likely, their resistance at the outset might have made them a battleground then and they would have lost men and land. At least, they would have retained their national honor and not become known td the world as a people who drifted around as the tide of battle went. It is fitting that Italy, Rumania, Bulgaria, Finland and the rest should be required to not merely quit fighting the Germans, but actively assist the Allies. SPECIAL!
