Rhode Island Nov. 20 O) The American am bassador to Canada, Ray Ather- ton, told the opening of an exhibition on 300 years of Canadian history held at Brown Uni versity Friday that wartime co-operation has brought to Canada and the United States a unity which was first visualized by early explorers. Mr. Atherton said Champlaln and other early explorers visualized North Am erica as a single unit a new world without national bound ary lines. The ambassador added: "I feel that today we have achieved again in spirit that North American unity -which Champlaln found and which Champlaln described. McNaughton, in a statement today, asked that the method of volunteering enlistment to provide reinforcements for Canadian forces over seas be given a fair trial. He expressed the belief that the problem would be solved. McNaughton said that cdhfer ences with MaJ. General Pearkes, G.O.C., Pacific Command, and district officers commanding, showed the existence of a num ber of factors which operated to deter or prevent men In the Home Defence army from vol unteerlng for overseas service. We're not allowed so much to spend now so we are not as well off as In Blighty. "We are supposed to be receiving fresh rations more often so It will be a change from can ned stew, bully beef and more stew.
