DAILY EDITION Monday, June 5, 1944 The Fall of Rome . . . In a war in which propaganda, alarm and civilian ? morale in having such a great effect, the physcholog-ical reaction of the fall of Home may well eclipse in importance the military value of the liberation of the first Axis capital. If the Italian people had not already been eliminated as a fighting factor for tliej Axis, the capture of Rome by the Allies will com-i plete that removal. 1 The physchological effect of the Fall of Rome may strike in many ways, some of which we may not immediately think about. Not only are the city and its people liberated but so also may be liberated for the purpose of full and free expression great moral forces which, as long as Rome was under the direct Axis influence, could not very easily express themselves. We may not be able to see at this time all the implication and repercussions sequel to the fall of Rome but we may be assured that it is an event which should have a most important bearing in the whole paign of speeding the ultimate Allied victory in the world conflict. 1 A.
