DECIDING OF STANLEY CUP New Point System to Eliminate Unnecessary Travelling MONTREAL, March 2 O, . To avoid unnecessary travelling on the part of hockey players, the National Hockey League has adopted a new method for determining the 1945 Stanley Cup winner. The point system will be used in play-offs this season rather than the policy of having each game played to a finish. In the only National Hockey League game last night the Chicago Black Hawks defeated the New York Rangers 5 to 3. The defeat was a severe blow to the Rangers' play-off hopes, leaving them still one point behind the fourth-place Boston Bruins in the standings. The Hawks now train New York by three points.
