E. Tutte. There was a concise program of speeches of acknowledgement and accept able musical selections which culminated in the novel presen tatlon of a birthday cake after which the proceedings came to a close with the serving of de licious refreshments. Major A. E. J Supervisor Tutte disclosed that since the club's opening on July 19 of last year, no less than 17,380 men of the sea from all states of the union and from many of the Allied countries had partaken of its facilities. A par ticular source of gratification to the supervisor was' the fact that the institution had been able to make comfortable the visits of. men from all parts of the world and thus create a favor able impression for Prince Ru pert. There had been trepida tion on his part at the outset as to what the success of the club might be but he could look back to the first year with what he believed was pardonable satisfaction. In any success there had been, the ladles. of the. Navy League had played a prominent part. Mayor H. M. Daggett added his voice to the appreciation of a fine service well rendered and paid particular 'ribute to the splendid management of Super visor Tutte. Mrs. J. R. Elfert, president of the Women's Auxiliary of the Navy League of Canada, said . that the ladies had greatly en- Joyed the privilege of being able I to assist in a work that was fill- : lng such a great need. Col. J. II. Mellom, officer' commanding, Prince Rupert i subnport of embrakatlon, ex-' pressed particular appreciation , of the war service of the Salvation Army as exemplified in the Seamen's Club. It was well that I there should be this ministering ' to the needs and comforts of , the merchant seamen without. whose brave and daring service In the face of the greatest of danger and hardship modern wars could not be won. "They are deserving of the utmost that can be done for them" declared Col. Mellom. Russian Captain Voices Thanks A brief speaker of particular Interest was Ca.pt, Krems of the Russian ship Scala who neatly expressed appreciation of himself and his men for hospitality extended them during their stay lA Prince Rupert.
