Assisting Of Service Men Visiting Official Anxious That Prince Rupert Should Be Prepared Department Takes Steps. Veterans of the present war on demobilization will enjoy the benefits of a widespread and comprehensive program of rehabilitation measures designed to adequately assist and fit all types and conditions of service men to resume their place in civilian life. Here in Prince Rupert where there have been few problems of rehabilitation as yet, arrangements are being made to facilitate the provision of this rehabilitation to the service men. The fhst concrete act is to be the appointment to the staff of the local National Selective Service office of an officer who will specialize in handling the employment of returned men. The appointment of this officer, who will be- specially trained in his duties, is to be made almost immediately. This information became av ailable with the -visit to the city during the latter Dart of last week of Col. H. K. Molson, vet erans welfare officer for the British Columbia Mainland with headquarters in Vancouver. Col. Molson disclosed that the federal government had enacted twenty-seven items of legislation of benefit to the new veterans. Now the government was anxious to make certain that the returned men actually received In fullest measure full benefits which were thus made available to them. Col. Molson described the aids to rehabilitation which were available to the veterans? firsts unemployment; second, voca tional training; third, aid while awaiting returns from farms or business; fourth, sick benefits; fifth, educational. The visiting oiflcer urged the importance of veterans and the public acquainting themselves fully with the nature of these benefits and the processes by which they became effectivcr "We have endeavoured," he said, "to take care of the most difficult cases and problems and RECEIVES BRONZE BADGE LONDON, O) - A London Transport bus driver who has noc been involved in an accident in 27 years has received a bronze badge, highest award in the na tional "safe driving" competi tion. to see that no worthy veteran is not effectively re-established in civilian life." Local Advice Is Desirable Col. Molson stressed the importance of active functioninz of local rehabilitation commit tees which could be of particular value in assisting the department in dealing with local problems. Particularly was this so insofar as information as to local opportunities for service men in employment and business were concerned. The depart ment was most anxious to have local Information and advice available through these local committees. "So far," Col. Molson said, "there have been very few appeals from Prince Rupert but we will undoubtedly be getting them in time and we are anxious to be prepared to meet ithem here as elsewhere." He men tioned that there were already cases of 118 unemployed veterans in the Vancouver area. Col. Molson expects to visit Prince Rupert again before long. Prescriptions..
